September 1, 2015 @ 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM
Focus Program Meeting – Presentation by Jon Van de Grift on “Overcoming the Obstacles: Transitioning from Snapshots to Art”
That magical box of microchips and glass between photographer and subject can easily get in the way. Minimizing the role of the camera in the photographic process is one of the most important steps to extracting the inner artist. On September 1st, Jon will share his thoughts on ways to minimize the role of the camera along with various tips, anecdotes, and of course photographs in his interactive presentation that will provide some new perspectives on our craft.
Jon Van de Grift is an extreme weather photographer based in Boulder, Colorado. His photographs have been published worldwide in nearly every medium. What makes Jon’s photographs unique is his uncommon approach and lofty perspective. Beyond the typical documentary snapshots of storms, Jon makes true fine art of some of the most dangerous weather on Earth. His platform of choice is a mountain summit and when that’s not available, he uses an aircraft. He is one of only a few fine art aerial photographers in the world. When he’s not behind the camera, he’s in front of the chalkboard teaching earth and atmospheric science at the Metropolitan State University of Denver.
You can watch “Dispatches” on Outside Television to learn more about Jon and his work.
