Focus Program Meeting – Presentation by Gary Witt and Dan Greenberg on Image Printing and Presentation – A Low Cost Approach to Submitting Prints for FCC Competitions
Presenters – Gary Witt (6-year member and Past President of FCC) along with Dan Greenberg (15-year member and Past Competition Chair)
Gary is a regular submitter of printed images into FCC competitions. He does not own a photo printer but instead chooses to use COSTCO. At the request of several members, Gary will focus his presentation on the process he uses to plan and execute print image submittals for competition. This process involves pre-planning for the size of the image, preparation and online submittal to COSTCO, retrieval of the images, print handling, and mounting. He will present on the various facets of the process, provide written documentation, and use visual aids to demonstrate the planning, image trimming, mounting, and final preparation. Gary will also touch on the process to download and use the ICC printer profiles available from COSTCO.
Dan also regularly submits printed images for FCC competitions in addition to printing a lot for his own portfolio. He will cover how he prepares prints for completion as well as well as how he mattes them for presentation at Focus. Additionally he will cover additional aspects of printing including issues and things to consider when purchasing a printer, costs and types of paper and toner, printing techniques and a bit about screen calibration, etc.
He will talk about other places he buys prints for sale and for himself including printing on other media such as metal, canvas, books and calendars. He will have a quick presentation on preparing a print for focus, not including the actual printing and a handout covering various aspects of the presentation.
