Focus Program Meeting – Presentation by Lars Gesing on ‘Tell Me a Story’
TELL ME A STORY — WHY EVERY PHOTOGRAPHER NEEDS TO START ASKING WHY
A picture is worth a thousand words, right? Yes. But… far too often, photographers focus too much on the technical process of taking a picture, forgetting to ask the most important question: Why? Why am I taking this photo? What draws me to the scene?
Not only will this simple question make you a better photographer, because it will make you see more intentionally. But, more importantly, for those of us who are looking to express ourselves with our photography, asking why? informs what we want to say with our image. Because in the end, photography is the ultimate storytelling exercise.
Lars Gesing has been a storyteller his whole life. A German-born journalist by trade with almost two decades of experience in print and broadcast journalism, he started his own fine art photography business, Lars Gesing Fine Art Nature Images a few years ago. With his imagery, Lars tells a coherent story of life in nature in the American West, and tonight he is sharing some of his techniques on how to create photographic art that communicates deeply-held emotions and convictions, how to write narratives that accompany, supplement and enhance the image itself, and how to elevate any kind of imagery to the next level and have people stop in their tracks to engage with an image much beyond a quick “like n’ run”.
The meeting will be held via Zoom at our normal day and time. Members will get an email with info on joining the meeting. Non-Members can request an invite using the form below.
