June 2015 Program Meeting
June 2, 2015 @ 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM
Focus Program Meeting – Presentation is “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” by Eric Cain, Sam Howard, and Dan Greenberg
In an effort to highlight some of our member’s photography, the June 2nd program was created to showcase the work of new members Eric Cain (planes), Sam Howard (trains) and Dan Greenberg (automobiles). Each will take a portion of the meeting to show and discuss some of their images on these specific topics.
Eric joined FCC just four months ago but has already shared his photographic talents with some phenomenal competition images. Eric holds a Bachelors and Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering and currently works at Sierra Nevada Corporation as an Aerospace Engineer. On a daily basis his work includes overseeing design teams on both aircraft modification and spacecraft design programs. He is the company’s unofficial photographer, having photographed many of the company’s projects and flight test activities for documentary purposes. One photo, featuring a prototype of the Dream Chaser Spacecraft during a flight test, was selected as the October 2012 front cover of Aviation Week & Space Technology Magazine.
Eric’s interest in photography began when he received a telescope as a gift and his subsequent desire to photograph what he was seeing. This required that he develop an understanding of the basics in photography since shooting in manual mode is a necessity for astrophotography. He began to practice the principles of photography using a Canon EOS Rebel film camera but then fully embraced the hobby when he purchased his first DSLR about 10 years ago. Today Eric experiments with shooting a variety of subjects, but his career and hobby interests overlap at his favorite subject, airplanes!
Sam Howard has always lived in Colorado and spent a lot of time in the high-country while growing up. He learned photography at an early age from his best friend and mentor (his father). Sam has always been a railroad enthusiast and has used Colorado railroads as his main photographic subject. This theme provides endless opportunities from steam locomotives to scenic landscapes throughout Colorado.
Sam is a former resident photographer at the Denver Photo Art Gallery, at John Fielder’s Colorado Gallery and at his own Caboose Gallery (in a caboose of course) in Littleton, Colorado. Sam has been accepted in numerous juried fine art and solo gallery shows. You can see more of his work at www.trainroomphotography.com.
Dan Greenberg is a photographer specializing in fine art automotive photography, based in Parker, Colorado. He has been photographing vehicles of all types at car events, in salvage yards, at custom portrait sessions and many other places and situations for over thirty years. His work has been published in car magazines as well as in his own series of self-published and ever growing series of car art books available on Blurb.com.
His interest in cars and photography began at a very early age. Beginning at age 12, he learned how to repair cars while working at his father’s gas station. His early interest and obsession with cars led to having performance cars in high school and hot rodding in general. That interest and obsession has continued throughout his life.
Dan’s love for photography began in fifth grade. By his early twenties, the two interests came together and the continual search for beautiful and interesting automotive subjects began. His images are a result of that ongoing quest.
