The recording of the presentation from Martha Montiel titled “Finding Beauty in the Details: The Art of Intimate Nature Photography” given to the Focus Camera Club on August 12, 2026.
Program Description
Martha talked to us about going out to get that Gram-worthy shot of some sweeping vista – and how we are sometimes disappointed by what we find in the field. Maybe it’s the weather, or the light or some other factor where the scene in front of us isn’t matching up to what we pre-visualized. A quick pivot from that “hero” shot to small sections of the grand view or looking around at flowers, mushrooms, or bits of a tree or its bark can provide interesting compositions and photos too. Put away the 24mm and break out a telephoto zoom to capture the details around you.
Martha also discussed how shooting both the hero image and some detail shots tells a more complete story about the location. you can then use those images in a web gallery or portfolio piece or photo project.
